What would you like to do to decreases taxes in Waukesha County?

Howard: To decrease taxes in Waukesha County we need to reduce costs with shared services and continue with sound fiscal management. We also need to increase the tax base through growth in development of residential, industrial and commercial areas.

Waukesha County stands at 5 percent (not seasonally adjusted) unemployment, as of November. What's working and what isn't working? What will you do to bring more jobs to Waukesha County?

Howard: What is working is the ongoing efforts with Work Force Development Board, local businesses and schools to proactively develop a skilled and educated labor force. Addressing the skilled labor shortage and making sure our work force matches available jobs is essential, along with supporting business growth creating more job opportunities.

How will you negotiate health care reform for businesses?

Howard: We need to make sure the public is informed on the most current information on changes in health care. Businesses and individuals make their best decisions based on facts.

How will you work with families and schools to keep education in Waukesha County top notch?

Howard: Quality schools attract families and businesses. Waukesha County is known for its excellent schools. Continued ongoing efforts working with school superintendents, high schools, Carroll College, UW-Waukesha, and WCTC will ensure retention of a skilled work force that is crucial to the future of Waukesha County.

Expiring congressional bills at the federal have affected struggling families in Wisconsin, from exhausted emergency unemployment compensation to decreased food stamps (28,846 people in Waukesha County receive food stamps). How will you serve your neediest constituents?

Howard: I have served and supported numerous nonprofit organizations in Waukesha County that directly support our neediest constituents. Waukesha County is a philanthropic community with a nonprofit sector that is our strength. Continued collaboration and eliminating duplication of services will be the key to serving our neediest constituents.
